San Jose Grand Prix
Wow, last weekend was pretty crazy. Three hot crowded days of racing in downtown San Jose. I had never been to any kind of car race before so I didn't know what to expect. I was just looking forward to seeing cars going over 180mph in downtown San Jose.
At first I hung out at the straight sections of the race because it wasn't crowded. However, when cars that fast are racing all you see is a blur. So I spent most of the rest of the weekend at a sharp corner to see the drivers slam on the brakes, skid around the corner and accelerate. But the coolest part was watching them crash just a few feet in front of me. The pictures above and below are from cars slamming into a wall RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. Each time it happened the whole crowd jumped and yelled.
Also, I'd have to say that of all the various leagues (Atlantic, CHAMP, Touring, etc...) I actually liked drifting the most. Drifting looks like Oakland's sideshows if you're from the Bay Area but it really originated in Japan 20 years ago. Here's a link to a video clip I recorded. It was amazing to see cars sliding sideways at 70mph coming straight towards me with smoke filling the air. I highly recommend it.
