Adventure in Arnold, CA

My family used to own a cabin up in Arnold, CA for about 15 years. They sold it to friends of theirs so we were able to visit it again for not too much money. It was me, Samantha, Jace, Rez, Alena, and Eddie packed into Eddie's Land Cruiser. We got there on Friday night and found out that the power wasn't on. I checked the circuit breaker but that didn't help. Then I discovered the problem, a branch had fallen on the power line that connects the cabin to the street. So, we were all going to have to spend the night in a cabin without a heater in sub-freezing weather. We got the wood stove going but that only really heated the room it was in. We gathered all the blankets and layers of clothing we could find and settled in for an uncomfortable night. Eventually one of our cell phones managed to get a signal long enough to call PG&E's 24-hour emergency service. They said they would have someone there in a couple of hours.

The next morning I managed to make coffee and oatmeal on the wood stove which made me feel like a pioneer man. A PG&E truck arrived after breakfast and the guy said it wouldn't be that hard to fix but he would need to call in a truck with a crane on it which would take a couple of hours. We were all relieved that the power was going to be fixed soon. If it wasn't we would have just headed home then.

Eddie and I headed up to Bear Valley to go skiing. It turned out to be one of the best skiing days of my life. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and also no wind so it was incredibly warm. After just one run I removed every layer of clothing except for a t-shirt and my jeans. I was seriously skiing all day without a hat, gloves, or jacket. The snow was perfect because they had just received 8-10 feet over the last two weeks.

On Sunday we made a sled run out of the neighbor's unplowed driveway:
